June 21, 2011 Meeting

Our meeting in June will feature Sgt Adrian Diaz who will present information about the Seattle Police Department Explorer Program.

The mission of the Explorer Program is to bridge the gap between youth (ages 13 to 21) and police by educating and involving them in police operations and to interest them in Law Enforcement.

Perhaps you would like to know how many of our current and past police officers are graduates of the program. What does the training involve? How much time is involved?

These and many other questions will be answered during the evening.

The SW Precinct operations officer, Lt Pierre Davis, will report on crime trends and hot spots that have become apparent during the last month.

NO MEETINGS WILL BE HELD IN JULY OR AUGUST. OUR NEXT REGULAR MEETING WILL BE SEPTEMBER 20, 2011.

SEATTLE'S NIGHT OUT EVENT AND ALSO THE SW PRECINCT PICNIC WILL BE HELD IN AUGUST.

HOPE TO SEE MANY OF YOU AT THE JUNE MEETING. BRING YOUR TEENAGERS TO LEARN ABOUT THIS OPTION AS A FUTURE ACTIVITY.

May 17, 2011 Meeting

This meeting featured a presentation from Steve Freng from the NW High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). This presentation brought the group up to date on current trends in drug use; Marijuana, Designer drugs, and synthetic drugs (prescriptions),

HIDTA found in many States and was formed to coordinate the many drug enforcement agencies. All information is routed through HIDTA. This helps to prevent one agency from accidentally stumbling into another agency's territory during an ongoing investigation. This often endangers undercover agents.

A very good meeting with many questions from the audience. For more details, read the coverage by the West Seattle Blog.
